Overview & Highlights

Nestled along the quiet stretches of Highway 27 in Sharon Springs, Kansas, Penny's Diner is a charming little gem that perfectly encapsulates the classic American diner experience. Open 24 hours a day, this cozy spot serves up comforting, no-frills diner fare that appeals to travelers, locals, and truckers alike, making it a dependable stop for anyone looking to refuel both body and spirit.

The menu, thoughtfully displayed on whiteboards framing the ceiling, offers a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that lean into traditional diner cuisine. Whether you're craving a hearty breakfast at dawn or a satisfying burger late at night, Penny's delivers with warm, familiar flavors. Popular dishes like the mushroom Swiss burger, BBQ burger, French toast, and crispy fries come highly recommended by regulars. The fries, in particular, seem to be a standout—with their golden, crispy texture, they offer a perfect accompaniment to any meal. Meanwhile, the tater tots are serviceable but might sway you to opt for those fries instead.

What makes Penny's Diner genuinely special isn’t only the food but the experience surrounding it. Reviewers often highlight the friendly, kind staff who create a welcoming atmosphere despite the diner’s small size and sometimes busy pace. The fact that the diner staff also serve the adjacent Wyndham hotel hints at a close-knit, hardworking team dedicated to good service. Though one customer noted a moment of curt service during a particularly busy time, the manager’s warm attention quickly restored the diner’s friendliest vibe.

Truck parking next door and an around-the-clock service schedule make Penny’s a convenient oasis for road-weary travelers. Fresh coffee served at any hour, a variety of classic comfort foods, and the possibility of a creamy milkshake make it feel like a comforting pause in a remote part of Kansas. As one traveler put it, finding Penny’s was a “nice little surprise in the middle of nowhere,” and that sentiment echoes throughout the feedback.

In sum, Penny's Diner stands out as a truly authentic roadside diner where the heart of Americana thrives through simple, satisfying meals and genuine hospitality. For anyone passing through Sharon Springs seeking a heartfelt meal that feels like a warm embrace, Penny’s Diner is definitely worth the stop.

Cute place and kind staff. Food was typical diner food. They were out of a handful of things like hot dogs and chicken strips so my kids got given slicer chicken fried chicken. The fries are super good and the tater tots were average so go with the fries :)

This is a sleepy little stop along the highway. The diner staff are also the hotel staff for the Wyndham behind the building. The food is exactly what you expect from a little diner like this and the menu is written along the walls on whiteboards that frame the ceiling. Everything was clean and the staff were friendly.

This diner is a nice little surprise in the middle of nowhere. Was headed to Colorado for a business trip when I found Penny’s Diner and stopped for a bite to eat. There is not much at all in Sharon Springs, but this diner is in great shape and open 24 hours a day. This is a great thing for such a small town. The food is basic diner type food, but it is good food. Also ordered a milkshake on the way out that was perfect. If I ever get back to Sharon Springs again, I’ll be stopping it.

Over enjoyed my experinece here. Was very nice that there is truck parking next door and it is open 24 hours. There is nothing better than being able to stop in for breakfast and fresh coffee at anytime of the day. There were no prices on the menu which I found a bit odd so I'm not exactly sure what individual things cost. I purchased 2x breakfast meals, a coffee, a Pepsi, and jalapeño poppers for $28 which I thought was fair priced. (Meal for 2). Would defiently stop again.

Cute diner. Good food. Plenty of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and treats. We had the mushroom/swiss burger & fries, French toast, sourdough burger, and BBQ burger. My only complaint is that the young man who was our server was very curt when taking our orders. But the diner was busy and at that moment he didnt seem to have much help. When the manager was able to help, she was friendly and kept our drinks topped off. My only regret is that we didn't save room for one of those milk shakes.
